These are off-brand wooden railway tracks designed to work with the Brio and Thomas and Friends systems. For the most part, they fit well with the tracks we already have. The best part of this set is just the sheer number and variety of track pieces -- great for creating larger and more complex set-ups. Older kids, maybe 5-6 years, will have a lot of fun imagining new layouts. This product does have a few minor downsides, as follows:
1. The roundhouse is cheaply made and difficult for little hands to operate -- expect your 2-3 year old to need adult help turning it. Also, one of the connection knobs on ours had been inserted too far into the main piece, making it impossible to attach tracks to that side.
2. The traffic gate is a great idea, but the gates themselves are quite fragile. Other reviewers have noted that their children broke the gates quickly. Ours actually ARRIVED with both gates broken. They are made of very thin wood (maybe 1/16"...
